Parking in Banja Luka

Finding parking in center of banja Luka can be a challenge. Lot of hotels and hostel have its own parking. Most public parking lots in and around the center of the city have meters that automatically print out a ticket. Depending on the proximity of parking to the city center, the cost per hour differs slightly.

Zone 1 (meters with red color)—near the city center—costs 1 KM per hour or 5 KM per day.

Zone 2 (meters with blue color)—adjacent to the city center—costs 50 fening per hour or 3 KM per day.

The meters accept the following coin denominations: 50 fening, 1 KM, 2 KM and 5 KM. Parking meters do not give change. Therefore, if a larger coin denomination is inserted the meter, you will purchase more time on the meter. After inserting the appropriate amount of money into the meter, the green button must be pressed to collect the ticket. The ticket will state when it expires. The acquired ticket needs to be placed on the dashboard of your vehicle to prove that the parking spot has been purchased. For changing language to Serbian, English or German press the double flag button.

Some streets have parking meters as well. There are places to park on the sides of the streets for free, however caution is advised. Make sure that parking in that place is aloud. Otherwise, your car may be towed unexpectedly.

Buses

Bus tickets may be purchased in dedicated kiosks or on the bus itself. Bus schedules and maps of bus routes are available at most of the bus stops.

When entering a bus, come in through the front door and make a ticket purchase from the bus driver. The cost of each bus ride is 1.40 KM one-way. Holding on to the ticket until the end of the trip is recommended.

Taxis

The taxi service in Banja Luka is a very reliable and relatively inexpensive way of traveling. There are numerous taxis parked throughout the city during the day and night. To order a taxi by phone is fairly easy. A friendly operator will ask you your location (street and number) and then tell you how many minutes until the taxi will arrive. Many operators and taxi drivers speak some English and some German, so that may be a bonus. Every car has an initial starting price, which is the same for every taxi. The cost for your distance traveled will be added to this initial amount. During the holidays, expect delayed services due to high demand.

Car rental

There are several reliable car rental places in Banja Luka that have vehicles of all varieties and a great staff. However, most companies do not have a large number of cars available. Reserving a vehicle as much in advance as possible is recommended. Having phone numbers of other companies on hand is also advised.
